After six and a half scoreless innings for both teams, Germany came finally through in the bottom of the seventh frame. Jens HEYMER led off with a double and scored on an error by the pitcher, who misplayed a sacrifice bunt by Marcus GIENGER. Pinch runner Philipp HOWARD added the second run moments later on a ground ball by Sascha LUTZ.
Michael OTTO started the game with 6 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits and four walks, striking out six. Dirk FRIES came in for the final 2 2/3 frames and picked up the win.
Krissa HEEBTHONG (L 0-2), who appeared in his thrid game (two starts), gave up two hits, two runs (1 ER) and five base on balls in eight innings. He struck out two.
