Germany finalizes Roster for European Championship with Cuts

After announcing a preliminary roster the German Baseball and Softball Federation had to cut three players before the start of the 2012 European Championship. They did it on Thursday after concluding the preparation phase. Julius Uelschen (Untouchables Paderborn), Maurice Wilhelm (Cologne Cardinals) and Adrian Stommel (Bonn Capitals) will not be on the final roster.

The third-place finisher of the 2010 tournament is going to face the Netherlands, Czech Republic (first opponent on Friday), France, Great Britain and Belgium in Group B of the preliminary phase. The team of head coach Greg Frady, who also will be at the helm for the World Baseball Classic Qualifier shortly after the European Championship, features four minor league players with Kai Gronauer, Max Kepler, Markus Solbach and Daniel Thieben and Italian Baseball Leaguer Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez. A surprise addition is Luke Sommer of Dutch champion Corendon Kinheim. Not on the roster are Donald Lutz (40-man roster Cincinnati Reds), Rodney Gessmann (professional reasons) , Dominik Wulf (knee injury) and Tim Henkenjohann (semi-retired).
