During the first three Innings both starting pitchers – MARQUEZ (GER), STEAHELY (SWE) – had been in control of the ballgame. Germany could not get a single hit. Sweden had three hits in the first third of the game but could not capitalize from those rather small opportunities.
In the 4th the German team scored 4 runs. The leadoff batter WULF doubled to left field and later scored on a single by GÜHRING to get the Germany ahead in the game. Robert GRUBER hit another double that drove in 2 more runs to make it 3-0 and JANZEN drove in GRUBER to increase the lead to 4-0.
In the 6th Inning the German National Team put another 4 runs on the scoreboard. Besides 3 hits the Germans used 2 walks and 1 fielding error to make the game 8-0. The only Swedish run in the game was scored in the 6th when DERMENDZIEV scored on a triple by REIMER.
The big lead after 6 complete Innings was all the German head coach FRADY needed to see and took out his ace Starter MARQUEZ and replaced him with ALMSTETTER and later GESSMANN.
The German Team played a strong game with good offensive and defensive performances. MARQUEZ proofed that he is the top German starter. Sweden did not play a bad game but gave up 2 big innings. On this level of play there is almost no way to make up for that.
