Germany advances to final round with a 6-1 win over Czech

Posted on September 12, 2007September 12, 2007 by MrBB

The German batters jumped on starting pitcher Leos KUBAT right from the first pitch. A triple by Kai GRONAUER scored Simon GUHRING who got on before with a single. Next batter Robert GRUBER hit his 4th double of the tournament to score GRONAUER. It was 3-0 after the 1st inning. The German added 2 more runs in the 4th to make it 5-0.

Meanwhile the Czech team found no way to hit German ace MARQUEZ who started his 2nd game of the tournament. MARQUEZ pitched 6 very strong innings giving up no runs, only 2 hits while striking out 11 and walking only 2. Then the German coach handed the ball over to his bullpen, most likely to save MARQUEZ for the rest of the tourney.

The only time the CZECH team seemed to come back into this game was in the 8th when Martin ALMSTETTER had big trouble finding the strike zone. He pitched 0.0 innings (1 ER) in relief and gave up a single to PETRIK, followed by a walk to BREN and another single to VESELEY. German coach FRADY had seen enough of ALMSTETTER for this day and brought in HOFFSCHILD to close the game. HOFFSCHILD did his job to end the 8th and pitched a good 9th inning retiring three in a row.

This game was an excellent performance (11 hits, 0 Errors) of team Germany (4-1) who will now advance to the final round. The Czech team (2-3) will end up in the relegation round.
