The finals in the German Baseball-Bundesliga are set. For the second time since 2010 the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg and the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe will meet in the German finals. Both won their semi-finals last weekend in four games. Heidenheim downed the Bonn Capitals 3-0 and 7-6 at home to return to the finals for a second straight year. Peter Sikaras struck out 15 batters on Saturday to lead the way.
Regensburg won 2-0 and 9-4 on the road against the Solingen Alligators. Mike Bolsenbroek was his usual self on Saturday and Regensburg scored six tie-breaking runs in the ninth on Sunday to win the best-of-five series. Key to the game-four victory though was Gianny Fracchiolla somehow only giving up four runs in 8 1/3 innings, while walking 12 batters.
The German Baseball-Bundesliga finals will start with games one and two on September 19 and 20 in Regensburg. Game three on Friday, September 25 in Heidenheim will be a night game. Games four on September 26 in Heidenheim and five on October 3 in Regensburg will follow if necessary. Legionaere TV will broadcast all five games live at www.sportdeutschland.tv/baseball.
