After an exciting start to the quarterfinals in the German Baseball-Bundesliga games three to five are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
Only the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg are on the verge of a sweep, facing the Hamburg Stealers with a 2-0 lead at home in the Armin-Wolf-Arena. Both teams have met several times in the quarterfinals, but only in 2010 Hamburg was able to avoid the sweep by winning game three in Regensburg.
The other three matchups are tied at 1-1 and are wide open. Defending champion Solingen Alligators host the Haar Disciples with game three being played on Saturday at 1pm. Solingen looked strong in game one with Andre Hughes and Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez dominating. However Gabe Sandersius and the Disciples won game two and are traveling to the Weyersberg on a high note.
Northern champion Bonn Capitals is tied with the Mainz Athletics. Bonn won game one, which starred Jan-Niclas Stöcklin on the mound for Mainz, while the A’s beat Capitals ace Wilson Lee in game two. However both games were close affairs, which could have gone either way, setting up thrilling rematches at the Rheinaue in Bonn.
At the Heidekoepfe ballpark in Heidenheim last year’s runner up is taking on the Untouchables Paderborn. Games one and two featured Paderborn rotating through their pitching staff to disrupt the timing of the usually powerful Heidekoepfe offense. These tactics helped the U’s to win game one. But one good frame for Heidenheim was enough to prevail in game two.
A live stream will be available from Solingen and from Regensburg at www.sportdeutschland.tv/baseball.
