While the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five finals against the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe and the Solingen Alligators only were able to beat Olimpija Karlovac at the European Cup Playoff, the playdowns in the German Baseball-Bundesliga continued this past weekend with the second to last round on the schedule.
In the northern division the Cologne Cardinals still have it in their own hands to leave their eight spot in the standings, as they won one of two on the road against the Dortmund Wanderers. The Cards also profited from two losses by the Pulheim Gophers at home against the Dohren Wild Farmers. The Gophers and Cologne will face each other next Saturday. The eighth team in the standings gets relegated directly, while the seventh has to face a second-division club in a promotion/relegation series.
In the southern division the Gauting Indians lost their third and fourth game in a row against the Saarlouis Hornets, but remain in fifth place. The club from Munich is now tied with the Mainz Athletics after their sweep of the Neuenburg Atomics. The Hornets are one game behind in the standings. However Gauting is still the favorite for fifth, as they will conclude the season against the Atomics, while Mainz has to travel to Saarlouis.
