The German National Team has won the 2015 All-Star Game in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. They defeated the Bundesliga All-Stars 13-12 in an entertaining, but not high-level All-Star Game on Sunday at Roberto Clemente Field in Mannheim. The ASG was hosted by the Mannheim Tornados for their 40th anniversary.
The game was a back and forth slugfest from the start. The score was 7-7 after three frames and 9-9 after five. Germany decided the outcome with a four-run seventh frame. ASG MVP Simon Guehring, Maurice Wilhelm, Chris Howard and Sascha Lutz also hit home runs for the German National Team. Peter Johannessen hit a two-run shot for the All-Stars in the eighth, which got them within a single run. Ian Vasquez had three hits.
Sunday not only featured the All-Star Game, but also a Home Run Derby. James McOwen defeated Maurice Wilhelm 3-2 in the final. McOwen had five home runs during the first round. Mike Durham, Wilson Lee, Chris Howard and Max Boldt also participated. Prior to the All-Star Game Georg Bull got inducted into the Hall of Fame of the DBV.
On Saturday a couple of make-up games were scheduled. The Bonn Capitals nearly blew a 10-2 lead in a sweep over the Untouchables Paderborn (10-9, 11-3). The Solingen Alligators handed the Hamburg Stealers a 3-2 home defeat. In the south the Mannheim Tornados downed the Tubingen Hawks 10-0 and 8-1 behind strong pitching of Matteo D’Angelo and Michael Torrealba and the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe took two wins from the Bad Homburg Hornets.
