Dusty Bergman (W 3-1) threw a three-hitter and the HEIDEKOEPFE tied the best-of-five championship series in the German Baseball-Bundesliga against the TORNADOS with a 5-0 shutout. Bergman gave up just three hits and four walks in nine innings, striking out four.
The offense provided him with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a RBI double by Ray Stokes and a RBI single by Andreas Janzen. Two frames later they added three more runs on a RBI single by Robert Gruber and a two-run single by Peter Dankerl. Sam Whitehead, Stokes and Ryan Lilly had reached on a pair of walks (one intentional) and an error to load the bases with two outs.
Rene Franke (L 1-3) went seven innings and conceded five hits, five runs (2 ER) and five bb for the loss. Games three to five will be played in Mannheim next weekend.
