The HEIDENHEIM HEIDEKOEPFE turned the best-of-five series against the MANNHEIM TORNADOS on Sunday around and won the German Baseball championship for the first time in team history. They evened the series with a 15-3 romp in game four and won the fifth and deciding match 3-1. MANNHEIM had prevailed 5-2 in game three on Saturday to take a 2-1 lead. HEIDENHEIM is the fifth different German champion in the last five years, four of them won for the first time. The last three champions all came out of the southern division in the Baseball-Bundesliga after northern teams had won the title in nine straight years between 1998 and 2006.
