German catcher Kai Gronauer of the New York Mets has been promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas. He is expected to serve as backup. The 26-year-old Solingen native has been playing in the Mets farm system since 2008 and is going to be the first German player ever to play at the Triple-A level. In 2012 he split time between Double-A and Single-A, batting .209/.270/.302 in just 40 games. Many expected a release from the MLB organization, now he is actually just one step away from Major League Baseball.
