The New York Mets organization has promoted German catcher Kai Gronauer from the Single-A team Savannah Sand Gnats to the Advanced-A team Port St. Lucie Mets. The club, which enjoys a successful streak with 15 wins in 19 games at the Major League level right now, overhauls nearly the complete Sand Gnats roster, as eight players got called up. Four of them will accompany Gronauer on their trip to the Florida State League.
The 23-year-old Gronauer, who was invited to the Major League portion of Spring Training this March, is batting .267 (OBP .349/SLG .361) with two homeruns, a triple, ten doubles, 23 runs and 23 RBI in 50 games this season. He also was named to the South Atlantic League All-Star game this week as a reserve. He went hitless in his lone at-bat in the game. It is his third professional season in the American Minor Leagues.
