The Tubingen Hawks stunned the Stuttgart Reds on Thursday evening with a 6-5 nail-biter in a make-up game of the German Baseball-Bundesliga. For Tubingen it was their first win since opening day and only their second of the season.
The Hawks took an early 3-1 lead on a bases clearing double of Allan Attridge in the second. They extended the advantage to three runs in the sixth. However the Reds answered with four runs in the seventh to get in front. Nevertheless Tubingen still prevailed, rallying for two runs in the top of the ninth to seal the upset. Callum Vinall tied the game with a two-out RBI single and afterwards Luca Helber got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the winning run.
With the loss Stuttgart’s lead over the fifth-place Mannheim Tornados dropped to a single game in the standings. Mannheim is facing the Bad Homburg Hornets in a doubleheader and can move into a tie for fourth with a sweep.
