The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe completed a three-game sweep over the Solingen Alligators with a 15-0 blowout on Saturday to return to the finals in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. The second semi-final between the Bonn Capitals and Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg won’t be completed before September 29.
Regensburg took a 2-1 lead in the series with a 7-4 win on Saturday. On Sunday they led 2-0 in game four, looking to close out a stunning semi-finals win. However Bonn came back and tied the game in the ninth.
As it turned out the fun just had started. Ten more innings followed until Maurice Wilhelm scored the winning run for Bonn in a 3-2 victory in the bottom of the 19th innings to tie the series at 2-2. Wilhelm also pitched nine perfect innings in relief.
Game five followed afterwards, but had to be suspended due to darkness in the bottom of the fifth with Bonn leading 3-2. The game will be resumed on Saturday, September 29. The final series has been rescheduled to start on Wednesday, October 3, a national holiday in Germany.
