Posted on August 14, 2007April 9, 2021 by MrBB

The Solingen Alligators used strong pitching and defense to eliminate the Mannheim Tornados from the German Baseball League playoffs last weekend. The Alligators will now battle the Mainz Athletics to determine who advances to the championship series.

Solingen is led by their talented pitching duet – Andre HUGHES and Enorbel MARQUEZ-RAMIREZ. Shortstop Joey BESL and top hitter Dominik WULF pace the offense.

The Mainz Athletics secured a berth against the Alligators by trouncing the Bonn Capitals, 21-2 and 13-10, this past week. Ace pitcher Manuel Moller and and leading hitter Sascha LUTZ are the top players for Mainz.

For the second year in a row, the Heidenheim Heidekopfe disposed of the Paderborn Untouchables in the first round of the German playoffs. Heidenheim won two close contests last weekend overPaderborn, 3-2 and 5-2, and will now meet Regensburg.

Heidenheim features a potent offense that includes Simon GUHRING, Ben HIMES, Doug KRUTHAUPT, and Robert GRUBER.

The Legionare won three straight games against the Cologne Cardinals, including a 9-2 spanking last weekend, and will be looking to return to the German Baseball League finals after losing to Solingen last year.

Regensburg is led by Simon KUDERNATSCH, Klaus HOPFENSPERGER, Matthew FLAHERTY, and Martin ALMSTETTER.

In playdown action, the Hannover Regents earned their first win of the season by splitting a pair of games with the Neunkirchen Nightmares and the Tubingen Hawks took two games from the Gauting Indians.
