American manager Rod Delmonico has selected eight young players to take their spot in the 24-man roster, which is to take off on July 2, opening day of the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam. Opponents of the home team are national representatives from Cuba, Japan, Taiwan and USA. Two new pitchers, four new infielders and two new outfielders most probably will make their debut in the national team of the Netherlands sooner or later during the eleven-day and 21-game tournament.

From DOOR Neptunus the many scouts from around the world will see pitcher Kevin Heijstek, infielder Jeffrey Arends and outfielder Shaldimar Daantji. From L&D Amsterdam Pirates first invitations were received by infielders Nick Urbanus and Zair Koeiman and by outfielder Bas de Jong and singles were delegated by Mr. Cocker HCAW (pitcher Joey Eijpe) and by Konica Minolta Pioniers (infielder Mark-Jan Moorman).

Remarkable farewell was announced by the Dutch record man Dirk van’t Klooster, who between 1998 and 2009 participated in 211 international games around the world. The right fielder played in five European Championships (all won), five IBAF World Cups (latest two times finished 4th), three Olympic Games and two World Baseball Classics (1 x second round). Van’t Klooster was nominated best right fielder of the 2000 Olympics in Sidney and best defensive player of the 2005 World Cup in Rotterdam. He will continue to play within the Netherlands for his club Corendon Kinheim.
