Defending champion Rouen Huskies had a prefect start into the best-of-five French Finals on Saturday in Savigny. They scored five runs in the first two frames en route to a 16-4 rout in seven innings against the Savigny Lions in game one of the series. Aaron Hornostaj and Boris Marche did most of the damage, combining for nine RBI. Luc Piquet and Kenji Hagiwara scored three runs apiece. Keino Perez (W 1-0) issued four runs on ten hits and a walk for a complete game victory. Tim Stewart (L 0-1) surrendered five hits, nine runs (7 ER) and seven base on balls in five innings. He had a much better day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a homerun, two runs scored and two RBI.

The Rouen Huskies also won game two against the Savigny Lions on Sunday and now are just one victory away from another title in the French Elite League. However it wasn’t that easy as one day before. Kenji Hagiwara broke a 5-5 tie with a solo homerun leading off the seventh to put the Huskies ahead for good. After a RBI double by Keino Perez and a three-run shot by Aaron Hornostaj they won 10-5 in the end. Savigny twice had erased a deficit in the game and took the lead themselves in the fifth on a RBI single by Jerome Dussart, but couldn’t hold on to it. A bases loaded walk by Joris Bert had evened the score in the sixth. Anthony Piquet won the duel on the mound against national teammate Pierrick Lemestre.
