France Junior Team wins Tournament in Madrid

Posted on November 6, 2008 by philipp

The French Junior National Team defeated the Under-21 squad of Navarra in the finals of the International Tournament Villa de Madrid in the Spanish capital last weekend. They scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and final frame to seal a 6-5 victory. Apparently the umpire botched a sure out call moments before the outcome was decided, which in the end led to the French win.

Navarra had the better start into the match, taking a 3-1 advantage after two periods. But France fought back, tied the contest in the fourth and went up 4-3 in fifth. But two runs by Navarra in the top of the sixth changed the score again.

In the semi-finals both teams crushed their opponents. Junior France pounded Rivas Vaciamadrid 15-0. Under-21 Navarra beat Los Gatos de Madrid 13-0.

Roster France Junior: Guillaume Lafeuille (Montigny), Andy Paz (Toulouse), Thomas Medina (Toulouse), Maxime Lefevre (Montigny), Henri Francois (Montpellier), Simon Vicente (Beaucaire), Maxime Charlot (Pineuilh), Andy Pitcher (Montpellier), Clyde Fondop (Montigny), Arthur Paturel (Bois Guillaume), Warren Coopman (Montigny), Quentin Becquey (Rouen), Eloi Secleppe (Dunkerque), Maxime Tyler (Pineuilh), Edison Garcia (Toulouse), Nelson Azirar (Toulouse), Pierre Franc de Ferriere (Pineuilh), Thomas Gicquel (Ermont)

Alberto Espanol, Diego Perez, Eneko Del Burgo and Juan Redin pitched for Under-21 Navarra in the tournament.
