Finnish ex-MLB pitcher visits SBSL

Posted on September 28, 2009 by philipp

Press Release Finnish Baseball and Softball Federation, www.baseball.fi

The Finnish Baseball and Softball Federation (SBSL) had a rare treat on Sunday, September 27th when ex-MLB pitcher Tim Harikkala paid a visit to Helsinki for a pitching clinic. Rarer still is that Tim speaks Finnish; Tim’s parents were originally from Finland.

Tim was kind enough to take a day off from his short visit to Finland with his family to come to Helsinki and spend 2 hours talking about and demonstrating pitching mechanics with about 20 players. He also spent a little over an hour with 6 children with whom he covered throwing, catching and warm-up drills.

Tim spent parts of 6 seasons with 4 different Major League Baseball clubs: Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies and Oakland Athletics mainly as a relief pitcher. He compiled a 7-8 record with a 5.98 ERA in 73 games pitched between 1995 and 2007. Tim has recently also pitched in the Korean professional league, the Taiwanese professional league and he is on his way to join the Venezuelan winter league for his 2nd season there.

The SBSL would like to thank Tim and looks forward to future endeavors with him.
