The Federations Cup Qualifer at Farnham Park started on Tuesday with two high-scoring games. MKS Stal Kutno and the Borgerhout Squirrels celebrated wins on the first day of the preliminary round.
Atletico Alexandria (ROM) – MKS Stal Kutno (POL) 3-20 (7)
MKS Stal Kutno defeated Atletico Alexandria 20-3 in seven innings. Five runs in the first and the third, as well as six in the fourth turned the game into a blowout. Artur Wojtczak collected five hits and four RBI. Maciej Wroblewski and Jakub Wojtczak scored four runs apiece. Jakub Nadolski cruised through seven solid innings for the win. He struck out 11. A. Adumitrachioaie took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 12 hits and four walks in three innings.
London Mets (GBR) – Borgerhout Squirrels (BEL) 8-24 (8)
The Borgerhout Squirrels won their opening game 24-8 against the hosts of the London Mets. Seven runs in the top of the third broke a 2-2. Six runs in the fourth blew the score open. London answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and two in the seventh, but nine Borgerhout runs in the eighth ended the contest due to ten-run rule. Rob Lewis drove in five runs for the Squirrels. Timen van Geel scored four runs. Five other players crossed the plate thrice. Thanks to the massive run support Jose Larrinaga still got the win after issuing eight runs (6 ER) on 13 hits in 6 1/3 innings. Karim Gonzalez got charged with the loss, conceding 11 hits, nine runs (8 ER) and three walks in three frames.
