BLAGOEVGRAD, Bulgaria — The London Mets wrapped up group play at the third Federations Cup Qualifier with its fourth win, an easy 19-5 drubbing of the hapless hosts, Sofia Athletic. The 4-0 record marked only the second time in British baseball history that a club won all of its games at a CEB tournament following the Windsor Bears in 2003. Rory Chandler had a four-hit game for the Mets, while Jordan Edmonds continued his scorching approach at the tournament.
Sofia 5 – London 19 (7)
It was once more the big inning that thrust the dagger into Sofia, with the Athletic looking more spirited in its second attempt at unseating undefeated London. The Mets held a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth before erupting for a 10-run outburst. Two more runs apiece made little difference and the Mets became just the second British club ever to finish group play undefeated, following in the footsteps of current BaseballSoftballUK CEO John Boyd’s legendary Windsor club.
Chandler unleashed a pair of doubles and two singles from the eight-hole, scoring four London runs. Edmonds and Callum Vinall were 3-for-5, swiping three bags, with the former knocking a two-bagger.
