EL LLANO received a strong pitching effort in game one and needed a run in the tenth in the second to defeat SANT BOI in both ends of the doubleheader last weekend. The team from Gijon moved within one game with the Catalonians in the standings, as they dropped to third.
Elvis Polanco (W 4-2) led EL LLANO with 8 2/3 brilliant innings to a 2-0 shutout in the first match. He allowed just two hits and two walks, while striking out three. Ruben Fente got them on the board in the fifth with a RBI fielder’s choice. Pedro Mendez scored another run in the eighth on a double play groundball. Albert Vargas (L 8-3) was charged with six hits, two runs and three base on balls in seven-plus innings.
The second game was dramatic till the end. EL LLANO scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth in a 8-7 victory. Javier Flores led off with a walk and advanced to third on a sac bunt and two more bb. He finally reached home on a wild pitch by Jose Cruz (L 3-2) with one out. They had to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings on a RBI single by Roberto Noriega. SANT BOI had taken the lead in the top of the frame through Jose Luis Riera’s three-run homerun after overcoming a 0-5 deficit. Though in the end, they lost anyway. Carlos Fente (LLA) allowed eleven hits, four runs and two walks in eight innings. Yoel Hernandez (BOI) gave up ten hits, six runs (4 ER) and two bb in eight innings. Ruben Fente (W 3-1) picked up the win.
CD Pamplona – San Inazio Bilbao 4-10, 4-9

SAN INAZIO celebrated two victories after coming home from their trip to PAMPLONA. They got their record back to the .500 mark, though the gap to the top four is pretty wide. CD stayed in eighth position.
In game one both teams started strong on the offensive side and the score was 3-3 after two periods. BILBAO took the lead in the fourth on an error and built up the advantage to 10-4 in the following. Kelvin Marianucci had three hits, doubled, tripled and drove in five runs. Dirimo Chavez was three-for-five with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. He also missed the cycle by a homerun. Rene Reyes had five hits in six at bats. Juan Carlos Ortuno drove in two for PAMPLONA. Erik Arteaga (INA) struck out seven in 8 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and four runs in the win. Alexis Fumero (PAM) gave up 14 hits, ten runs (9 ER) and six base on balls in 8 1/3 innings.
In the second match SAN INAZIO took an early lead and defeated PAMPLONA 9-4. This time Chavez went five-for-six with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. Jorge Sandez drove in four. Joseba San Andres had three hits, including a homerun. Pedro Belmonte (INA) gave up five hits and two runs (1 ER) in 7 1/3 innings. Alberto Casanellas (PAM) was charged with 13 hits, eight runs and two bb in 7 1/3 innings.
FC Barcelona – CB Viladecans 3-1, 6-1

The FC BARCELONA again received strong pitching performances and moved into second place of the Division de Honor standings after sweeping the doubleheader versus CB VILADECANS.
In the first game BARCA took the decisive 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, shortly after VILADECANS had tied the score on a RBI single by Felix Cano. Pau Sancho delivered a RBI single for run number two. A sac fly by Gil Kim in the fourth made it 3-1. Homer Baez (FCB) allowed five hits, one run and four walks in eight innings. Yulman Ribeiro (VIL) was responsible for eight hits, three runs (2 ER) and a bb in 7 2/3 innings.
BARCELONA scored four runs in the first inning of the second match on their way to a 6-1 victory. Sancho and Miguel Mora each drove in two. Oscar Roman and Jorge Miqueleiz also had RBIs. Like Baez Jorge Balboa (FCB) allowed five hits, one run and four bb in eight innings for the win. Pol Llopis didn’t make it out of the first frame. He was charged with three hits, four runs (3 ER) and two walks in 1/3 innings.
Astros Valencia – Marlins Puerto Cruz 1-11, 2-5

The MARLINS did their job and swept the two-game set in Valencia to solidify first place in the standings of the Division de Honor. However the ASTROS were in reach in both games. In the first they only trailed 1-4 till the seventh period. In the second they even cut the deficit to a run after the seventh innings stretch, but failed to put more pressure on the reigning Spanish champion from Puerto Cruz.
