FC Barcelona hopes to stay close

Posted on July 18, 2008 by philipp

The FC BARCELONA is playing host to BASEBALL NAVARRA this weekend in the Division de Honor in Spain. They are currently in second place with a 19-5 record and one game behind the MARLINS in the so important loss column. They try to stay close with a sweep.

BARCA is coming from two victories against SAN INAZIO, where they received a brilliant performance by Homer Baez (complete game shutout) in game one and an impressive effort by the offense (16 runs, 14 hits, six for extra bases) in game two. They are riding an eight-game winning streak and hope to extend it till next week, when they will face CB SANT BOI in a showdown with the third-ranked team.

NAVARRA also is on a positive note on their way to Catalonia. They swept the doubleheader against local rivals CD PAMPLONA and moved their record back to .500 in fifth place. It is going to be difficult for them to climb in the standings, so their main goal for the rest of the year is to maintain their current position. Already one victory this week would be considered as success.

Leader PUERTO CRUZ is also playing in the southeast of Spain, as they travel to VILADECANS trying to solidify first place against the seventh-ranked team in the standings. SANT BOI, which lost ground in the standings two weeks ago due to two losses in Gijon, hopes to get back on track with a twin bill in PAMPLONA.
