Spanish National Team in Tenerife

by www.baseballeurope.com

National team coach Mauro Mazzotti worked from November 5 to 14 with a group of twelve young players who have a chance to make the Spanish national squad in the years to come, taking advantage of the good climate and the recently improved facilities at the ballpark in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife. He was assisted by coach Miguel Erroz and the team’s senior shortstop Nestor Perez, who is working as a coach before his comeback as a player after missing out the 2010 European Championship with a muscle injury. Another important member of the staff was Antonio De Paz, the national team’s trainer and physiotherapist, who had the opportunity to apply the skill he recently renewed in Orlando, Fla. with his fellow Atlanta Braves specialists. The event was supervised by the director of baseball operations of the RFEBS, Mr. Juan Carlos Cerda, which underlines the importance of the event and the players at hand for the Spanish federation.

The sessions included general and position specific workouts, batting practice on the field, gym and pool workouts in the Maritim Hotel, just across the street from the ballpark. The skilled instructors, highly motivated athletes and the good climatic conditions made everyone involved agree that the meeting was a full success.
