The Milan-based franchise Expos United hopes to play in the 2011 Italian Baseball League according to a report by Baseball.it. Right now they have two teams in the Serie A of the Italian federal championship with Senago Milano United and Novara, and Rho in the Serie B plus a several teams in the various youth championships in Italian Baseball. One of their main points in their bid for the IBL is the renovation of the Kennedy Stadium in Milan, which hosted the European Championship in 1964.
Already €140,000 was invested for the reconstruction of the diamond and the dugouts. Another €2.2million over three phases will be needed to complete the work. In the first phase €200,000 would be used to rebuild the lightning system, in the second €800,000 to reconstruct the stadium and in the third €1.2million to install an innovative electricity system to produce “green energy”, which in the end could help to refinance the renovation costs.
