In an article in a local newspaper it was revealed that outfielder Evan LeBlanc is leaving the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg. The 28-year-old former Minor Leaguer was supposed to coach the softball teams of the club this year. A knee surgery would have sidelined him for the first half of the year from baseball activities. However a job offer in the United States made him decide to leave the club. In 128 games for Regensburg he batted .430 with 23 home runs, 117 runs and 156 RBI.
Besides LeBlanc also Justin Kuehn, Daniel Thieben and James Larsen have left the club or are no longer playing. Therefore the Buchbinder Legionaere are looking for another pitcher, probably a foreign-born player. They would like to add some depth to the pitching staff, which currently only includes Mike Bolsenbroek, Jonathan Eisenhuth, Wolfgang Reitter and Lucas Dickman.
Additionally it was revealed that the annual training camp in Nettuno was cancelled by new manager Ivan Rodriguez. They will instead intensify practices in Regensburg in preparation of the new season. Exhibition games against Kotlarka Prague, Haar Disciples, as well as Dutch Hoofdklasse club L&D Amsterdam are on the schedule. The Pirates will come to the Armin-Wolf-Arena from March 27 to 29.
