Europeans in the Majors & Minors through July 15

As the big league teams enter the All Star break, the games at the lower levels continue. Here’s the latest on the European players in MLB organizations.

In the past two weeks, four Europeans have signed professional contracts. Marten Gasparini (Italy) set a new European record with a $1.3 million bonus from the Kansas City Royals. Sven Schueller (Germany) signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dutchmen Ruar Verkerk and Rachid Engelhardt signed with the Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles, respectively. All four are in Prague this week for the European 18U Championship.

MLB –

Didi Gregorius, Arizona Diamondbacks. Netherlands.
Current team: Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB)
Gregorius is hitting .222 in July, .275 overall with 5 home runs.

Roger Bernadina, Washington Nationals. Netherlands.
Current team: Washington Nationals (MLB)
With a pair of Nats outfielders returning to health, Bernadina has exclusively been a substitute in July, with a hit in 5 at bats. He’s hitting .187 with two home runs in 139 at bats for the season.

Triple A-

Alex Liddi, Baltimore Orioles. Italy.
Current team: Norfolk Tides (AAA)
Since being picked up by the Orioles, Liddi has played 6 games for the Tides. He’s hit .304 with a home run.

Kalian Sams, San Diego Padres. Netherlands.
Current Team: Tucson Padres (AAA)
The outfielder has hit .235 in his last 10 games, including a home run Friday night.

Kai Gronauer, New York Mets. Germany.
Current Team: Las Vegas 51’s (AAA)
Gronauer is back on the Disabled List, having not played since July 2nd. He’s hitting .258 over 14 games for the year.

Double A-

Donald Lutz, Cincinnati Reds. Germany.
Current team: Pensacola Blue Wahoos (AA)
The German outfielder is hitting .143 since the calendar turned to July. Lutz is hitting .223 in 37 minor league games.

Tom Stuifbergen, Minnesota Twins. Netherlands.
Current team: New Britain Rockcats (AA)
In his 7 games at Double-A New Britain, Stuifbergen is 3-1 with a 6.23 ERA. He had two starts and a relief appearance in the last two weeks, allowing 2 runs across 13 innings.

Loek van Mil, Cincinnati Reds. Netherlands.
Current team: Pensacola Blue Wahoos (AA)
In 34 appearances, van Mil is 0-5 with a 3.56 ERA and 7 saves. He hasn’t allowed a run the last two weeks.

Single A-

Rodney Daal, San Diego Padres. Netherlands.
Current team: Fort Wayne Tincaps (A)
Daal is hitting .260 for the year in Fort Wayne. He’s put up a .364 average over the last two weeks, including a 2 home run game on July 5th.

Max Kepler, Minnesota Twins. Germany.
Current team: Cedar Rapids Kernels (A)
Kepler is hitting .253 through 22 games. He had 4 hits in a game on July 5th, but only 4 additional hits over the last two weeks.

Nick Urbanus, Texas Rangers. Netherlands.
Current team: Hickory Crawdads (A)
Urbanus has 16 at bats over the past two weeks. He’s hitting .173 through 25 games for the year.

Rookie –

Martin Cervenka, Cleveland Indians. Czech Republic.
Current team: Mahoning Valley Scrappers (rookie)
Cervenka is hitting .189 in 11 games for Mahoning Valley.

Dovydas Neverauskas, Pittsburgh Pirates.  Lithuania.
Current team: Jamestown Jammers (rookie)
Neverauskas is 2-2 with a 4.58 ERA in 5 appearances for Jamestown. He recorded wins in both of his last two starts.

Lars Huijer, Seattle Mariners. Netherlands.
Current team: Everett AquaSox (rookie)
Huijer is now 3-1 with a 2.83 ERA. He won a game and lost a game in the last two weeks, striking out 5 in 5 innings in his last start.

Scott Ronnenbergh, Seattle Mariners. Netherlands.
Current team: Pulaski Mariners (rookie)
Ronnenbergh is 0-1 with a 3.68 ERA. He’s thrown 5 innings and got five strikeouts over the past two weeks.

Daniel Thieben, Seattle Mariners. Germany.
Current team: Pulaski Mariners (rookie)
The righty is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA through 6 games. He’s thrown 5 innings in the past two weeks, and the only run he’s given up on the year came on a home run Thursday evening.

Ibrahin Redan, Cincinnati Reds. Netherlands.
Current team: Arizona Reds (rookie)
Redan had two appearances in the last two weeks, giving up one run in two innings.

Aldi Guzman, Cincinnati Reds. Netherlands.
Current team: Arizona Reds (rookie)
Guzman has 5 hits in 27 at bats through his first 8 games of the season.

Markus Solbach, Minnesota Twins. Germany.
Current team: GCL Twins (rookie)
Solbach threw twice, totaling 5 innings in the past two weeks, giving up no runs. He’s 1-1 with a 0.96 ERA with 9.1 innings pitched.

Andy Paz, Oakland Athletics. France.
Current team: AZL Athletics (rookie)
Paz had 3 hits in 15 at bats thus far in July. He’s hitting .244 in 15 games.

Daniel Arribas, Pittsburgh Pirates. Netherlands.
Current team: GCL Pirates (rookie)
Arribas is hitting .213 through 14 games, including 3 hits on July 10th.

Alberto Mineo, Chicago Cubs. Italy.
Current team: AZL Cubs (rookie)
Mineo’s played in 4 games, recording 2 hits in 14 at bats.

Mattia Mercuri, Atlanta Braves. Italy.
Current team: GCL Braves (rookie)
Mercuri has one hit in his first 12 professional at bats. He hasn’t appeared in a game since July 6th.

Jakub Izold, Cincinnati Reds. Slovakia.

Izold has 5 appearances totaling 6.1 innings. He’s allowed 11 earned runs, striking out six while walking no one.
