Italy – Sweden 11-4
Italy rebounded from a loss to the Czech Republic at the European U18 Championship on Tuesday with an 11-4 win over Sweden on Wednesday. Five runs in the second put the Squadra Azzurri en route to the victory. Giovanni Garbella led the way early on, homering in the first and driving two with a double in the second. Marten Gasparini doubled, drove in a run and scored twice. Stefano Grassi allowed five hits, four runs (2 ER) and three walks in seven innings to pick up the win. Anton Carlson took the loss.
Germany – France 7-6
Bastien Dagneau hit for the cycle, going 4-for-6 with six RBI, but Germany still beat France 7-6 on Wednesday. A wild pitch helped Julsan Kamara to reach home plate for the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Germany came back from a 4-6 deficit in the last frame. France had erased a 1-4 deficit with five runs in the last two innings prior to the dramatic finish. Janis Muschik drove in three for Germany.
Russia – Czech Republic 0-16 (5)
The Czech Republic crushed Russia 16-0 in five innings to improve to 3-0 in the tournament. 12 runs combined in the fourth and fifth blew the score wide open. Ondra Satotoria went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI, leading six players which crossed the plate at least twice. Lukas Ercoli struck out four in four perfect innings to pick up the win. Evgeny Libin took the loss.
Spain – Netherlands 3-8
In a game, which was decisive for first place in Group A, the Netherlands beat the previously unbeaten Spanish squad 8-3. Jelle Kreft set the highlight with a two-run home run. Recent Baltimore Orioles signee Rachid Engelhardt collected two hits, a triple, two runs and two RBI. Maickel Rietel struck out six in 3 1/3 innings of one-hit relief for the win. Oriol Perarnau took the loss, surrendering four hits, two runs and a walk in three innings.
