Czech Republic – Lithuania 22-10 (5)
The Czech Republic out-slugged Lithuania 22-10 in five innings for their third win in three games at the European Juveniles Championship on Thursday. Furko had the biggest game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a homerun, a double, four runs scored and six RBI. Grepl had four hits, three runs and three RBI. Grigas tripled and drove in three for the Lithuanian team. Both teams qualified for the semi-finals.
Romania – Poland 0-13 (5)
Poland won its first game of the tournament, shutting out Romania 13-0 in five innings. Unfortunately pitchers on both teams broke the 100-pitch barrier, as Radoslaw Jozwiak (W) struck out eleven in five innings, allowing two hits and five walks while throwing 106 pitches. Marius Nita (L) topped him with 129 in a complete game loss. Gajdzinski homered and drove in three for the Polish team.
Russia – Austria 18-17 (8)
Russia won 18-17 in walk-off style against Austria to clinch first place in Group A. Peredelskiy (5 RBI overall) drove in the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth, the first extra inning. Earlier in the frame Vorobyev (4 RBI) had tied the contest with a two-run single. Russia already had erased a five-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh. Pfortner hit a three-run inside-the-park homerun and drove in four for Austria. Feitzinger went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a homerun shy of the cycle.
Belarus – Ukraine 8-13 (8)
Again 500 people were in the stands to watch Belarus in the fourth game of the day. However they lost 8-13 in eight innings to the Ukraine and missed out on the semi-finals. The Ukraine scored two in the ninth to force extra innings and won it with five in the eighth. Gvritashvili had the big hit during the five-run rally with a three-run inside-the-park homerun. He drove in four overall. Lukashevich collected three RBI for Belarus.
