European Flavor at Central American and Caribbean Games

Posted on July 13, 2010 by philipp

According to Honkbalsite.com several former or current players from European Baseball leagues will play for the Netherlands Antilles at the Baseball tournament of the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico from July 20 to 28. Besides host Puerto Rico with current Major League free agent Carlos Delgado, Panama, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic and the Virgin Islands will play in the tourney. Venezuela hopes too, but still hasn’t solved its visa problems which already led to their withdrawal from the Haarlemse Honkbalweek last weekend. Cuba already had decided not to participate due to visa restrictions.

The contingent of players with European Baseball experience includes Duko Jansen and Rafael Jozefa of the Dutch Hoofdklasse club Corendon Kinheim. Jansen received permission by the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB) to play, as he is a former Dutch national teamer. Also aboard will be Ulrich Snijders, Ardley Jansen (both T&A San Marino) and Ivanon Coffie (Montepaschi Grosseto) out of the Italian Baseball League. Johannes Gregorius Jr. (ADO, T&A San Marino), Andy Leer (DOOR Neptunus) and Sevard Seferina (RCH Media Monks) had played in the Netherlands or in Italy in the past.
