We’re at the midpoint of the first round at the European Cup Qualifiers. In Karlovac, Croatia two games were played on Wednesday. Two more game days are until the schedule before the top two teams play in the finals on Saturday. The winner qualifies for the CEB Cup 2016.
Leksand Lumberjacks – London Mets 16-9
The Leksand Lumberjacks won its third match in as many games on Wednesday in Karlovac, defeating the London Mets 16-9. It was a back and forth battle between the two teams from Sweden and Great Britain. London led 6-2 after three innings. Leksand scored five runs in the fifth and was ahead 9-7 after seven innings. The Mets tied the contest in the top of the eighth, only to see the Lumberjacks putting seven runs on the board in the bottom half of that frame. Per Sjörs highlighted the big rally with a grand slam. Jonathan Schoon drove in three. Josh Rapaport had three RBI for London. Tyler Overstreet picked up the win in the slugfest. Matt Tarrant took the loss.
Olimpija Karlovac – Gepardy Zory 17-2 (6)
Olimpija Karlovac got its second win with a 17-2 blowout over Gepardy Zory in the second game of the day in Karlovac. They scored at least two runs in five of the six innings played. A six-run fifth turned the contest into a rout. Philippe Smith had three hits, four runs and five RBI. Nikola Sertic also crossed the plate four times. Darko Kvaternik pitched five innings of one-hit, two-walk ball. Karol Bialek gave up three hits, five runs (4 ER) and five walks in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss.
