Day two at the European Cup Qualifier in Karlovac, Croatia on Tuesday. Two games of the first round were on the schedule. The preliminary phase continues through Friday with the best two teams advancing to the final on Saturday.
Gepardy Zory – Leksand Lumberjacks 0-5
Albin Sivard was just a walk away from a perfect game to lead the Leksand Lumberjacks to a 5-0 shutout over Gepardy Zory at the Qualifier in Karlovac. He picked up 16 strikeouts during his no-no. Leksand took an early lead and added three insurance runs in the seventh. But Sivard wouldn’t have needed them anyway on his special day. Johan Klarberg went 4-for-5 with a run. Per Sjörs scored two runs for the Lumberjacks. Tymoteusz Orszulik took the loss, conceding one run on three hits and three walks in four innings.
London Mets – Zajcki Ljubljana 4-8
One day after losing 1-16 to Leksand, Zajcki Ljubljana rebounded with an 8-4 victory over the London Mets. Led by leadoff hitter and shortstop Martin Godnic, who went 4-for-5 with four runs and two RBI, Ljubljana took a quick lead and extended the gap throughout the game. London caught some hope in the fifth, when they put three runs on the board to cut the deficit to two runs. But they weren’t able to score again afterwards. Martin Tucker collected three hits for the Mets. Igor Kep pitched seven innings for the win. Sam Sproule took the loss.
