The European Championship U21 continued with the second day of the first round in Trebic, Czech Republic. Three games were played with Ukraine, Slovakia and Czech Republic celebrating wins. They Czech remain the lone undefeated team in the event.
In the morning the Ukraine stunned Russia with a 3-2 nail-biter. Both teams are 1-1 in the standings. Valentyn Shupniak decided the outcome with a walk-off sac fly in the bottom of the ninth inning. Russia just had tied the contest in the top of the frame, shortly after the Ukraine had broken the scoreless tie in the eighth. Dmytro Kiliyevich picked up the win in relief. Andrey Vesenev took the loss.
Slovakia ten runs in the top of the fourth in a 20-2 rout over Lithuania. Martin Roman hit a home run and scored four times. Jaroslav Sitar went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Filip Hoffman conceded only a hit, two runs and four walks in four innings. Robertas Vilimas had to take the loss.
In the evening game host Czech Republic scored 13 runs in the first three frames of a 17-2 win over Austria. Tomas Junec collected two doubles, three runs scored and six RBI. Adam Hajtmar crossed the plate three times as well. Ten different players scored. Lukas Ercoli got the win in relief of Daniel Vitek. Richard Alzinger took the loss.
