Day three at the European Championship in Regensburg saw three lopsided wins. The competition resumed in the morning with a gem by Thomas de Wolf. He led Belgium to an 11-0 win over Sweden, allowing no hits in six scoreless frames. He walked four and struck out nine in the rain-shortened contest. Robin Roevens collected three RBI, while five different players scored twice. Joakim Claesson got charged with the loss.
In the afternoon Germany won a crucial matchup 9-0 against Great Britain. Jan-Niclas Stöcklin, Andre Hughes and Nils Hartkopf combined for 15 strikeouts in nine six-hit innings. At the plate Philipp Howard went 2-for-4 with a walk, a key double and three RBI. Shawn Larry hit a solo home run. Kevin Kotowski drove in two. Gavin Marshall surrendered five hits, three runs and two walks in four innings to take the loss.
In the evening matchup between two 2-0 clubs, Italy downed France in an impressive performance 12-2 in eight innings. Alberto Mineo answered Frederic Hanvi’s two-run single in the third with a grand slam. Alex Liddi, who had arrived from the Double-A playoffs in the morning, went 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBI. Frailyn Florian gave up three hits, two runs and three base on balls in 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win.
