Austria is returning to the A-Pool for the first time since 2007. They swept their best-of-three European Championship Playoff Series against Lithuania 2-0. Following the convincing 10-0 shutout on Friday they followed it up with a 25-3 blowout on Saturday. They already led 15-0 after two frames and celebrated a big party in front of an official attendance of 900 at the ballpark in Wiener Neustadt.
Joachim Frick and Richard Alzinger hit home runs and combined for seven RBI. Samuel Hackl contributed four RBI. Edvardas Matusevicius went deep for Lithuania. Ryan Rupp pitched 4 1/3 innings before making room for Clemens Cichocki to get the last two outs in his last outing as active baseball player. Eimantas Zickus got charged with the loss.
Austria is now qualified for the European Championship in 2019, which will be played in Bonn and Solingen, Germany.
