The favorites of Group B in the first round of the European Championship in Ostrava celebrated wins on Sunday. In the morning Spain continued its offensive demonstration and defeated Russia 12-0 in seven innings. Eric Gonzalez and veteran Remigio Leal issued just six hits and a walk. Daniel Martinez and Oscar Angulo combined for six hits and six RBI. Former top prospect Fernando Martinez went deep.
Afterwards the Netherlands joined Spain as 3-0 team with a perfect 11-0 victory over Greece. Mike Bolsenbroek retired all 21 batters he faced in seven innings. He struck out ten. Six runs in the second and four in the fourth had decided the game early.
In the evening the Czech Republic improved to 2-1, rebounding from Saturday’s loss to the Netherlands. They beat Croatia 13-2 in eight innings. Jakub Sladek went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Adam Hajtmar and Matej Hejma scored three times apiece. Jiri Marek ended the contest with a home run. Mario Manojlov went deep for Croatia.
