Three games were played on the second day of first-round play at the European Championship in Ostrava. In the morning Spain clubbed Croatia 18-2 in six innings. Seven runs in the third put Spain up by ten runs en route to the blowout. Jesus Golindano hit two home runs and drove in five. Oscar Angulo, Jesus Ustariz and Luis Hernandez went deep as well. Leslie Nacar struck out seven in six innings for the win.
Russia got its first win with a 14-1 rout over Greece. Nikita Lobanov issued just one run on four hits and two walks in six frames. Nikita Monakhov and Viacheslav Vasilyev hit home runs. Seven runs in the sixth blew the game open. Max Gouron got charged with the loss. The Greek team dropped to 0-2 in the European Championship.
In the evening the Netherlands defeated the Czech Republic 7-0 in the a rain-shortened five-inning game. Four runs in the second decided the outcome early. Curt Smith set the highlight with a three-run home run. Hainley Statia drove in two. Diegomar Markwell pitched five innings for the win, allowing just two hits and two walks.
