Unipol Bologna has defended its European Champions Cup title. They defeated Telemarket Rimini 2-1 on Friday evening in Rimini to sweep the best-of-three final series. On Thursday Fortitudo had prevailed 10-0 in seven innings to take a 1-0 lead.

The outcome on Friday was decided in the ninth inning. With the Pirates leading 1-0 since a RBI double by Alexander Romero in the first, Bologna finally answered. Juan Carlos Infante led off the frame with a solo home run to tie the contest.

Three consecutive one-out singles by Rosario Reyes, Claudio Liverziani and Luca Bischeri put Unipol in front. Nick Pugliese pitched around a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth to close it out.

Starters Yorman Bazzardo and Matteo D’Angelo had issued one run each in 7 1/3 respective eight-plus innings. Junior Oberto got the win, Carlos Pezzullo the loss.
