The Stuttgart Reds announced this week that Matti Emery succeeds Bret Helenius as head coach for the 2013 season. Helenius had resigned following the 2012 season, the first year of the Reds in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. Emery is coming from the Bad Homburg Hornets. The Canadian with Estonian passport played three years with the Gauting Indians before that.
Additionally Stuttgart revealed that Richard Olson returns for a second season as starting pitcher in game two each week. The American, who was one of the best pitchers in the southern division last year, is currently pitching for the Adelaide Bite in the Australian Baseball League. In Germany he had a 4-5 record with an ERA of 1.79 in 11 starts. He struck out 98 in 90 2/3 innings, while walking 24.
