The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Italy Franco Frattini has worked to make it happen and now it is a reality. On September 1st the Slow Pitch Softball Embassy Cup will take off in Rome, an ideal prelude to the IBAF World Cup that will start touring Italy on September 13th.
The 8 participants will be made by the personnel of the Embassies who have their headquarters in Rome: Europe (a joint effort by Italy, The Netherlands and Sweden), Korea, Japan and USA 1 in group ‘A’; Australia, Canada, Venezuela and USA 2 in group ‘B’.
The Championship Game will be played at the “Acquacetosa Stadium” in Rome at 6pm on September 5th.
The Embassy Cup wants to highlight the great potential that the game of baseball has in Diplomacy.
In a way, it will be no friendly tournament though. Thanks to the cooperation of many associations based in Rome, the teams have started working hard in practice weeks ago.
