Ekobud Stal Kutno won the first two games of the Polish championship series on Sunday, defeating KS Silesia Rybnik 8-7 and 4-1 to move closer to the club defending its 2021 Polish title.
Rain on Saturday forced the weekend series to be played as a doubleheader on Sunday, and Kutno needed heroics in Game 1, with three homers in the eighth inning allowing the reigning champs to secure the victory. All told, Kutno hit four long balls in the contest, with Artur and Jakub Wojtczak, Robert Matecki, and Phil Richmond each contributing a homer.
The two clubs also met in last year’s championship series and finished atop the 2022 regular season standings, with Kutno a dominant 15-1 and Silesia Rybnik in second place with a 9-7 record.
