Romania got off to a great start at the Qualifier in Trnava, Slovakia. They shut out Finland in the opener 8-0. Mihai Georgescu (W 1-0) struck out nine in seven four-hit innings, walking none.

Gabriel Constantinescu and Andrei Lucaciu each hit homeruns and combined to go six-for-nine with four runs scored and six RBI.

Timo Liiri (L 0-1) allowed seven hits, four runs and three base on balls in six innings.

500 people in attendance in Trnava saw a loss of host country Slovakia against the Ukraine. The latter scored three runs in the first on their way to 7-1 victory in eight innings. Artam Palamarachuk had three hits and three RBI. Denys Agapov and Oleksandr Mamontov each scored two times.

Roman Yatsyuk (W 1-0) allowed just one hits, one run and walk in seven innings, while striking out nine. Pavol Teslik (L 0-1) gave up four hits, three runs and four bb in three innings for the loss.
