Austria won its first game at the European Championship Qualifier in Antwerp, defeating Latvia 9-2. Benjamin Husty (W), Dominik Loeffler and Lutz Rauch combined to allow just two runs on four hits and four walks in the game. Gregor Klinc and Clemens Cichocki had three RBI apiece to lead the offense. Christian Tomsich scored four times. Didzis Doveika (L) issued one hit, six runs and eight walks in just 1 1/3 innings.
Slovakia – Belgium 7-10

Slovakia gave Belgium a run for the money, as the hosting team and favorite needed an eight-run rally in the eighth to erase a 0-5 deficit en route to a 10-7 victory. Randy Giorgiadis drove in two. Seven different players crossed the plate for the Red Devils. Jan Jablonka and Igor Jankovic had two RBI each for Slovakia. Yannick Gontier (BEL) allowed two hits, two runs and three bb in six-plus innings. Pavol Teslik (SVK) conceded four hits and seven walks in five innings, but somehow managed to keep the scoreboard clean, relying entirely on his defense. Kenny van den Branden (W) got the win, Simon Prochaczka (L) the loss.
