Slovakia scored seven runs in the top of the ninth inning to erase a 3-4 deficit in a 10-5 win over Poland in the first match at the European Championship Qualifier in Antwerp, Belgium. Tomas Biskorovnjny and Martin Bosy picked up two RBI apiece. Jakub Horacek scored three runs. Gracjan Kraszewski collected three hits and two RBI for Poland. The game actually started with a pitcher’s duel. Marek Bosansky (SVK) issued five hits, three runs (2 ER) and two bb in 6 2/3 innings. Marek Deska (POL) topped him, going eight innings, while allowing five hits, three runs (2 ER) and a walk. He struck out 15 batters. Jakub Osaka (W) got the win. Kris Dabrowiecki (L) took the loss.

Belgium kicked off the qualifier with an 11-0 shutout over Austria. They scored all 11 runs between the third and the fifth innings. Y. Vischschoonmaker drove in four. Randy Giorgiadis and Steven de Lannoy crossed the plate three times apiece. Terrence Antonacci (W) allowed just four hits and a walk in seven scoreless innings. Paul Astl (L) gave up four hits, three runs (2 ER) and three walks in two frames.
