Russia needed a bases loaded walk by Nikita Monakhov in the bottom of the tenth to beat Ireland 5-4 on Thursday. The Irish overcame a 1-3 deficit in the last two periods of relegation, tying the contest through a second solo homerun by Jason Hove and a run after an error by shortstop Alexey Kizin. But in the end they lost anyway. Russia already had the chance to decide the outcome in the ninth, but failed to bring a run home with the bases loaded and one out.
Evgeny Vorotyntsev (RUS) struck out eight in seven solid innings. He allowed four hits, one run and a walk. Sean Finn (IRE) gave up eleven hits, four runs (3 ER) and seven bb in eight innings. Viacheslav Vasilyev (W 1-0) received the win, Niall Rouen (L 0-1) the loss.

Greece scored five runs in the second en route to an easy 11-3 victory against Portugal, their second of the tournament. Michael Koutsantonakis hit a homerun and drove in two. Erik Daniel Pappas and Constant Panagotacos also had two RBI apiece.
Andrew Brack (GRE) allowed just three hits in four scoreless innings. He struck out six. Christofor Rompinson (W 1-0) picked up the win. Luis Caratao (L 0-1) gave up three hits, five runs (1 ER) and a walk in 1 2/3 innings.
