Jesus Matos shut out AMSTERDAM over eight innings on Saturday in semi-final one of the European Champions Cup in Montjuic/Barcelona, Spain to lead BOLOGNA into the finals on Sunday. The FORTITUDO ace gave up just three hits and a walk, while striking out eight. BOLOGNA won with a final score of 6-0. Fabio Milano completed the shutout with a scoreless ninth.

Juan Pablo Angrisano put the Italian team up in front in the second inning, when he plated Joseph Mazzuca with a triple to deep center field and later scored on a sac fly by Daniel Frignani. RBI singles by Mazzuca and Luca Breveglieri plus a RBI double by Angrisano in the top of the eighth made it 5-0, before a sac fly by Claudio Liverziani in the ninth finalized the score.

The PIRATES didn’t get much going, leaving two men on in each the fifth and ninth. Adam Blackley did his best to match Matos, but had to concede five hits, two runs and two bb in 5 1/3 innings. Afterwards BOLOGNA added the insurance runs against relievers Nick Stuifbergen and Pim Walsma.
