On Saturday France won the U18 European Championship Qualifier in Boé and Toulouse, France. They defeated Sweden 12-1 in the final to capture first place in the tournament. Pierre Turette issued just three hits, a run and three walks in seven innings to pick up the win. Eight different players crossed the plate for runs. Eight runs in the fourth blew the game wide open.
France had reached the title game with a 13-3 rout over Poland in the semi-finals on Friday. Overall the French U18 National Team out-scored their opponents 69-14 in five games, staying undefeated. Bastien Dagneau led the way, going .533/.720/1.067 with one homerun, a triple, three doubles, 14 runs and nine RBI.
Sweden had dominated Great Britain 13-2 in the second semi-final to earn a date with France in the finals. They already had lost 7-14 to France on game day number one and weren’t able to threaten the French team in the decisive match. The British team finished in third place after beating Poland 9-6 in the bronze medal game.
