The Netherlands continued to flash their offensive potential in their opener into the second round of the 2012 European Championship. The IBAF Baseball World Champion crushed Sweden 17-1 in six innings, winning due to 15-run mercy rule. Five runs in the second, four in the third and seven in the sixth led to the blowout.
Four players crossed the plate three times for runs. Michael Duursma and Hainley Statia combined for six RBI. Thanks to 12 walks the Dutch team needed just four extra base hits in the lopsided victory. Diegomar Markwell allowed one run on three hits and a walk in five innings for the win.
Peter Johannessen scored the lone run for Sweden in the bottom of the second. Rickard Leander was charged with the loss, issuing five hits, ten runs (8 ER) and eight bb in four innings.
The Netherlands improved to 2-1 in the second round, while Sweden dropped to 0-3.
