Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg – T&A San Marino 7-6 (10)
The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg used a suicide squeeze by Matt Vance in the bottom of the tenth inning to edge out T&A San Marino 7-6 on Thursday evening at the European Cup in Regensburg.
A throwing error of the catcher on a steal attempt had tied the game moments earlier. San Marino had scored once in the top half of the frame thanks to a RBI fielder’s choice by Jairo Ramos.
The reigning Italian champion had the better start into the contest, scoring four times in the first on three hits and a costly error in center field. Regensburg struck back with three runs in the bottom of the first, two on a double by Chris Howard.
A sac fly by Wuilliuans Vasquez in the second made it 5-3 for the Titans. Michael Weigl capped a two-run fifth with a RBI single to tie the game for the Buchbinder Legionaere in the fifth.
Vasquez had two RBI for San Marino. Giovanni Pantaleoni scored twice. Ludwig Glaser had three hits for Regensburg.
On the mound Jim Magrane issued ten hits, five runs (2 ER) and three walks in seven-plus innings. Justin Kuehn pitched 9 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, six runs (4 ER) and eight base on balls. Jonathan Eisenhuth got the last two outs in the top of the tenth to pick up the win.
Darwin Cubillan conceded only a couple of intentional base on balls in 2 1/3 innings of strong relief. However two unearned runs were charged and he had to take the loss.
