eurocup09_nettunoL&D AMSTERDAM celebrated his third win in four games at the European Cup in Nettuno with a 17-9 pounding against TENERIFE MARLINS on Friday afternoon. The Spanish champion is now 1-3. The PIRATES took a fast 8-3 lead after three innings and led 11-4 midway through the sixth, when PUERTO CRUZ cut the deficit to three runs with a four-run rally in the bottom of the frame. However AMSTERDAM added six more runs in the eighth to seal the win definitely.

Fausto Alvarez led the offense with a homerun, a double and five RBI. Vince Rooi and Pavel van Zaane each scored three times. Eight Dutch batters had at least two hits on their belt. Richard Montiel was the main force for the MARLINS, also driving in five runs. Daniel Sanchez scored thrice.

As good as the batters were, as bad was the pitching. Rick Geestman (W 1-0) picked up the win, despite allowing nine hits, seven runs (6 ER) and three walks in five-plus innings. Antonio Gonzalez (L 0-1) was charged with seven hits, eight runs (3 ER) and four bb in three innings.

The PIRATES conclude the European Cup on Saturday with a game against the BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE REGENSBURG. The TENERIFE MARLINS face PORT OF ANTWERP GREYS.
